The Changing American Identity

As you already know, we have focused heavily on the American Identity this year.  And as you also know, history is never stuck in the past; history is alive, history is now, history is all around us.

Read this article and discover how our current American Identity is changing. 
  • Why do you think analysts describe this as "an important tipping point"? 
  • In addition, how does this shift affect decisions about education and immigration?

  1. I think the analysts describes this as a huge tipping point because this hasn't happened before. America is fairly new and has always been predominately white. This new minority trend in births will cause a lot of the countries politicians and educators to re-think simple things such as : how are we going to educate them when only 13% of blacks actually get a college degree? Education I feel was and is the biggest point in the article. Without immigrants , as the last commenter on the article said, " we'd be top-heavy with old people". We couldn't depend on the majority to keep populating , as a lot of European countries have done. Then who would take care of them when ( for example ) its a 3:1 ratio of old to young ? Without immigration and slavery America would most likely crumble away. The identity of America has always been different and now that the younger generation and the older generation don't look a like , I feel as if this changes a lot of things. It makes us even more diverse but also gives us a new problem to look at .
