  1. This article was very interesting. It reminds me of current issues that people are dealing with. For example, my father's neighbor's son committed suicide just last year. He didn't leave a letter or anything just like the men in this article who killed themselves. In this reading it said that most of these suicides took place in the south. Did they kill themselves because they knew that the north would win? Maybe this is unlikely seeing that during this time the South was winning quite a few battles against the North. Many people probably resulted to killing themselves because of the stress. Like it said in the reading, men signed up for the war not really knowing what they were getting into. Once they were aware of what excatly was expected of them they freaked out. It was too much pressure for the soldiers.

  2. This upsets me and adds to my belief that war is so wrong! It's just not logical at all, and I can't make sense of why people would use violence to obtain what they want. Here we see these men going off the deep end because of the war. It reminds me of "In lac ech". By killing other people, (or wanting to) these people are just killing themselves inside. If they were to approach this peacefully without war, these men would have had the inner peaces inside themselves and not have committed suicide.
