American Civil War: Legacies For Our Own Time Lecture 3/29

A quick synopsis from my perspective. For those who were not able to attend.
From the lecture, I considered the speakers words to be consist of facts and maybe even opinions. They were discussing what they believe to be the true legacies of our past time - The American Civil War. Though I learned that the Civil War is an endless debate, the speakers which I can’t recall their names said, and I quote, “Union win was a legacy” and the “Presence of black americans is a legacy”.

  1. I wish I could have attended the lecture. I have heard good things from this lecture, Danny told me that they were discussing about what they believe to be the legacies of the civil war era. Even though this is some time back than where we are now, it is still useful information towards the great cause. Like Danny said history is and endless debate.

  2. Thanks for the post and comment. I think we should continue to push ourselves to think of history as a continuum vs. distinct separated chunks of time. After all, humans create these eras that we study in history class. Time itself keeps going. While I know that eras and periods help us to understand details, looking at the big picture through this study of "legacies" can also be very powerful.

Niorgie: What do you mean by "useful information towards the great cause"? I'm intrigued.
